CID

like the mansion in the city in another raj khosla film where a ghost haunted the interior echoing voices up and down the halls, in CID it is a dusky seductress with a heart of gold who rules this one. uncanny- this home with its classic double heighted grand living space, its boudoir like bedrooms, from where a labyrinth of dungeons emerges behind the painting. somehow suddenly from the top we are underground and can only escape through doors that slide open and shut behind you after you move through them. outside the city is glinting in the harsh sunlight along the waterfront. street performers and dancers sing songs of love while johnny walker goes down the same street singing 'yeh hai bambai meri jaan'. it had to be him- the eternal bombay figure- in love with the koli panwali; with a loose sense of right and wrong and the only witness to a murder. much like waheeda rehman's kamini - another figure of ambivalent morality so typical of a bombay character. her first hindi film- and she eats the heroine shakila alive. as for the film- entertaining in spite of the far fetched coincidences and plot holes. lovely songs.
