The Flying Jatt. Remo Dsouza. 2016.
environmental message in a gleefully tacky superhero story that borrows liberally from all the american films it can. The charm of the hero is that he tries so hard. Marionettes dancing and flying in Photoshop fantasy backdrops of fields and skies, even the moo and some satellites.

Glory. Britney Spears. 2016

She always takes the manufactured nature of contemporary pop and makes it the object of her art. A cybernetic pop princess with a perfect body, robotic dance moves and music that is the soundtrack to the age of love as inflatable, disposable, cheap product. like plastic- smooth, sensual. like chrome steel- reflective, tough and easy to clean. like a steel skeleton covered in foam and finished in crystal. The choruses go ooo, ooo, ooo, ooo, aah, aah, aah, aah.. like the music from an electric doll. lovely, shallow, unforgettable- just the way i like it.

The Ultimates 1,2. Mark Millar. 2002-2007.
The Avengers in a reboot with a headquarters designed by Norman Foster and a huge superhuman fund run by Nick Fury. Each character is more human than we expect, jealousies, infidelities, ambitions, and Giant Man is a wife beater. In part one e villains are the reptilian aliens who tried to take over the world through the nazis earlier and now are plotting a comeback. The second is more complicated playing with American imperialism and the Ultimates being their persons of mass destruction and the reaction of the rest of the world, that creates its own breed of super soldiers in reaction in the post 9/11 anti Islamic hysteria, here is a Islamic supersoldier created because of american (Captain America) arrogance.

Scott has to defeat the 7 evil boyfriends to be if Ramona has to be won over. In quirky, hilarious fights with the most non sequitur absurdities treated like ordinary, around a cast of characters from archetypal suburbia- the gay roommate, the cool cynical sister, the rock dude…

Tekkonkinkreet / Black and White. Taiyo Matsumoto . 1993,94
The black cat is street savvy, while the white one is innocence. they love each other and rule the city- until the gangsters decide to replace the strip club where boys become men by a ‘kiddi castle’ where childish fantasies become a perpetually grinning nightmare. lovely, violent and moving.

My Golden Days. Arnold Desplechin. 2015.
when confronted with a identity theft he consented to, the anthropologist looks back at his own life as an odyssey- returning back to the place he left 8 years back. in that time, he has not forgotten the betrayal of his friends or his lovely girlfriend- and he refuses to see all that he has done wrong in his own ambition, sexism, insensitivity.
