The Embrace of the Serpent. Ciro Guerra. 2015.
In twin journeys separated by decades white explorers enter the forest looking for a rare flower. The encounter between the rational west and the aboriginal amazonian might seem to be too pat sometimes with strange myths of the semen of the sun and the eyes of the leopard facing off against mathematical certainties, scientific fact and just plain greed, but the mutual madness that descends on people forced to consider the boundary between cannot be denied. Messiahs, shamans, rubber barons, priests, researchers, soldiers, masters and slaves into the mystic forest to find themselves in the Unknown. Ghosts of Aguirre, Apocalypse Now and even Tropical Malady.
