cuffe parade fishing village
the third fishing village- cuffe parade- nestled in between the high rises of nariman point and cuffe parade- and the one of the reasons the backbay reclamation was left incomplete. the walls of the proposed plots work as jetties out into the ocean. although this was not originally a fishing village (it was built in the 1970's while the backbay reclamation was on- the coast was used by the villagers from colaba fishing village to access the sea. a proposed green space was slowly and steadily encroached upon in 4 sectors. of these, the third one is the best planned with houses of 16 ft by 20 ft and clear straight streets leading from the main road to the sea. today families have expanded upwards with bedrooms overlooking the sea across fields of tin roofs. along the main road are the public facilities- the playground, the temple, the market. pavillions being used for net drying, net making or weddings. to the northern edge is jetty (" this is where kasab landed"), the boat parking and the khardevi temple in the sea.
