the mega project came to an important juncture today, when the students presented their final design projects. the work was largely very good. every single on the projects seemed like it had the possibility of being interesting housing. the drawing level had been raised, though the models were quite honestly all right at best. the jury was a strange mixed bunch of the socially conscious and the archiectonically conscious, and was therefore a little odd. housing does bring out the strangest reactions from critics. this was a first in the school- the intertwining of the design cell’s ‘real life’ project with the design studio. i think it worked out quite all right. we hope to come up with a publication and an exhibition about the work soon. this, we hope, will become part of the awareness blitz regarding the possible alternative strategies for dharavi.
