in all its experimental glory, ‘mysterious object at noon’ is incredible. apichatpong weerasethakul travels across thailand speaking to villagers that range from wizened old women to fish vendors, traveling actors and school children, constructing his 'exquisite corpse' of a film. the narrative that builds through the slowly building tale has something to do with a woman teacher and her crippled student. along the way the actors and the film makers also participate in the game blurring the distance between not just documentary and fiction but also the storyteller and the audience. but its not only a clever game. through the new twists that every person adds to the story an amazing loving portrait is drawn of rural thailand- its people, folklore, landscapes and desires.
