the old japanese town with the railway
station as its generator. the edges of the grid are the older japanese mansions
while the inside used to and still has older buildings for the taiwanese poor.
the streets, like old medieval streets still have specializations- wedding,
birds, herbs. and although the railway station is still alive with activity
most of the city is emptying although we still found a glittering sweet shop
around the railway station. large monstrous constructions that are hollowed
out- an old jade market with a cinema within blocks of housing, or that
recreation center with a ballroom and a swimming pool on the upper floors
where the older shops are now occupied by the poor and the homeless. the town
hall has now moved and the older site is now being speculated over for newer
developments. later, annie and i walked down the new green space to the west
with lights, coffee shops and malls.
