yet another one of those american slightly off center films where the protagonist is slightly askew in the claustrophobic normality of american suburbia. adam sandler finds true love to save him from his loneliness, fits of rage and sadness and phone sex encounters in a slightly odd emily watson.
i have seen enough of these to know the general arc of the narrative and the treatment was self consciously alternative with sudden swerves into magic realism and special effects. decidedly ordinary a film; for intelligent commentary on the unbearable monotony of ‘normal’ living in
