with the mounting frustrations of trying to work within a system that is often considered repressive, all the teachers of architectural schools of the city might be taking a few steps towards a new system- less restrictive and hopefully that allows for more freedom. that is, if we are able to resolve and go beyond personal ego hassles and larger political battles. today’s meeting at rizvi though ended with some hope. we don’t mind being part of the process of developing a new curriculum. somebody’s got to get their hands dirty.
at stake are many issues though – what is the role of the architect? should the education system cater to the market? is design the synthesizer of all the various aspects of the course? what is technology, really? why are some courses so redundant and yet so firmly entrenched as necessities? tempers flared and nerves were rattled. an emotional end to the day. i was told by a senior member of the group not to put details of the days proceedings on the blog – but compulsive that i am, i can't not. i hope this post though is ambiguous enough.

just write ro!...these are losers!
the education system in general is so problematic. like i am doing sociology now and am already being taught statistical methods so that i may get a job in marketing etc. and that is at a master's level when it is safe to assume that those who are pursuing the subject are genuinely interested in the subject.
don't know much about architecture colleges, but i remember reading the screenplay of annie gives it those ones, starring arundhati roy , rajat kapoor, shahrukh khan before he became SRK. that too had similar issues of students learning to make what sells, and to draw boundaries to throw people out.
