bombay game in taichung

since we are playing a mughal game in taichung for the studio, it seemed only fitting that on a walk tien took me on yesterday inside an almost abandoned market within a residential block opposite the art museum, i found a bombay game in taichung. a slow process of gentrification is under way in the form of multiple art galleries and studios  all white and clean while outside in the covered streets the paraphernalia of the stalls gathered. the only lights on though- on a friday evening was the light from the market god shrine- and the 'play or die' shop where i saw the 'Bombay' board game. Elephants carried treasure for trade between bombay, indore, nagpur and hyderbad. on the way markets that looked like the asterix version of an islamic city. in fact the board reminded me so much of the birds eye that opens an asterix comic that shows the village surrounded by the roman camps.

the market itself seems incongruous between the newly built skyscrapers and restaurants that are taking over the american townhouses around the strip park now that the americans are gone- long after vietnam made this their camp.
