relentless in its stories of murder and rape in the genocide of the gujarat riots, the film ends up making the tragedies into salacious gossip by the glee by which they are seeked out and sensationalized. 3 and a half hours of a barrage of talking heads describing the atrocities committed on them or rabid speeches by politicians from the bjp, vhp and bajrang dal. unfortunately by the end of the first half hour all that the film wanted to say has been said and all that is left seems to be the grandstanding of a self obsessed egotist eager to thrust his self proclaimed courage in our faces. its disgusting how a tragedy ends up being fodder for shameless self promotion by soliciting the maximum amount of attention with scandalous stories. the tactic is as appalling as that of the villains of his piece.

Totally agree with you. Sadly most films with a message try to show u gory pictures and say dont do this. its bad and all.. like doordarshan ads that show a man spitting on the road and say dont do this..
also theres no attention paid to the economics of communal violence. so that absolutely kills the film..
.. Thinking.
like hindi films that pose a high minded morality merely to justify exploitative rape scenes
but doesnt the goriness to some extent jolt you to atleast think about it?? i know so many people who didnt even know about the holocaust who saw schindler's list and were totally shocked.. i guess it depends on the quality of the film maker...
and rape scenes in bollywood? they're there jus so a "sex" scene can be pushed past the censors.. and a rape scene in an italian movie i rememebr seein made the whole thing so a-sexual and highly brutal. so this comes back to the film maker..
