A part of the million houses programme of the Swedish government in the 1960s the high rise housing block is now an arrival city for migrants and refugees, and we were told, has a nasty reputation in the country as a hot bed of violence. We had a middle eastern lunch at ‘Yalla Trappa’ the women’s collective working in the neighbourhood, spoke to a planner who was trying to integrate it into the city through an image makeover and intervening with garden and infrastructure, and walked around the new public spaces designed by the girls for their own use and the house shops that line the public square with lights that change colour.
