Under the Cherry Moon. Prince. 1986.
Like Beyoncé does in Lemonade, Prince uses his stardom to perform his fantasies- and they turn out to be a trite love triangle and a poor boy-rich girl impossible love melodrama in jazz era Art Deco hotels, clubs and homes in the south of France. The boy-boy love seems more central to the film than the girl-boy one especially when our star wears heavy make up and hangs around naked in a bathtub with his partner ? Christopher Tracy/Tricky? Kristen Scott Thomas as the frigid heiress is mere pretty premise for the lovers to have a tiff.
If only the music had some relationship with the film. The movie needed a camper, more melodramatic soundtrack, and the music needed a funkier film. The hits come and go, fade out in merely a verse , including ‘Kiss’- sacrilege!
