Metropolitan. Whit Stillman. 1989.
The pretensions and the concerns of the UHB- the “urban haute bourgeoisie” in debutante season, in late night after ball parties, in expensive drawing rooms in Manhattan, with women in frills and men in bow ties speaking sardonically in some great one- liners, gossiping like in a salon from an Oscar Wilde play, playing party games all night, flirting and fighting; like characters in the Jane Austen novels referred to- a plain Jane in love with the poor boy, the hot chick, the dandy with the best one liners, the intellectual spouting Marx or Fourier, amongst many others.
