as taichung projects itself as 'global city' one of the many conceits it has is the projection of the festival as a spectacle. the lantern festival has been blown way our of scale as lanterns from around the country compete for best prize and are displayed in a public space in the city. at the other end of the park an enormous auditorium has thousands of people watching a concert where hong kong comedians and japanese drums play loud.
and then then lights- the possible brt station is lit in blue starlight and on the hill a huge globe dances in colours as a dragon swirls around it as the countdown begins.
