taiwan - tainan

the south of taiwan is the older part of the country and also less influenced by the kmt occupation- and therefore naturally not easily inclined towards china. tainan is the main city in the south, besides kaosiung and is a lazy easy city. unlike taichung's slick global aspirations, it seems to revel in its history with narrow streets and many chinese temples- matsu, war gods, buddhist temples.. the oldest chinese unversity in taiwan is a beautiful series of courtyards and ceremonial gateways. the dutch fort zeelandia and another fortress along the river. monuments to local hero koxinga mark important street corners.
