flew into kolkata for the release of the cinema city 'dates sites' book on the 8th of october. the event was at the max mueller. i was told i was a strange item for kolkata. the panel had besides Madhu and I: Hardik Brata Biswas, Madhuja Mukherjee, Ruchir Joshi, Sarnath Banerjee, Sadanand Menon, Samita Sen and Indira Chandrasekhar. i lived in the jadavpur university guest house between the pukur within the campus and the railway line. on the way to the airport the taxu went past the blue and white painted mamta flyovers and the strange empty landscape of rajarhat- a future city under construction. hotels and office buildings, residential towers. kolkata's ability to eat away anything new had begun its work even before the city was completed.
