the university of maryland felt just the same. nothing
seemed to have changed physically- the red buildings in the clear fall
afternoon, the buses, the school of architecture that lay unusually squat and
façade-less in a campus packed with monumental classical porticoes that remind
you of colonial homes in the south. but there was no one who i knew in the
school. bill was out- and so was matt. springhill lake also looked the same.
the apartment where i had first laid my bags- where i had first met shamik,
mani, rohit, fau still looked inhabited by students from umd. the beltway plaza
was as tacky as ever. that was comforting. J
