it was at the end of the america trip that i finally got to
the real reason for the visit- the conference/ symposium at princeton. gyan and
mario had organized this conversation between architects from mumbai and
architects from brazil on ‘city as home and home as infrastructure.’ prasad,
rupali, rahul, matias and i represented mumbai speaking of informality,
housing, and domesticity. the brazilians spoke of their cities- rio and sao
paolo. distant places were evoked and stories were told in a room far away from
both though mario did try and speak of the american landscape too. princeton
itself was lovely in bright cold light and red fall colours. the venturi
building a collage of signs upon a red brick base- a pretend city with many
doorway and styles all juxtaposed against one another. besides this, the gehry
library shards and swirls.
