Apna Desh . Jambu. 1971

The first half is so sanctimonious and boring that it does not prepare you for the madness of the latter when the good boys and girls play dress up in golden gowns and red mini skirts, when the lights go psychedelic, cars enter living roooms, bars turn around to reveal gold smugglers, the heroine enters on a floating bed ushered in by ballerinas, doors open with presses of buttons to reveal stacks of gold, when the sexy rain dances and group dances of the first half become cabarets; when ‘sun champa, sun tara’ become ‘duniyan mein’ and there is a camera in a lampshade.  There is a man to man, lip to lip kiss and visual sexual innuendos all over the place. It seems the film is a remake of a Tamil original with Jayalalitha and MGR- and was the film that convinced him to enter politics.
