The bloodline of the first settlers of the united states must be insane. some of them scalped indians in the past, while today the descendants, littlee old ladies in brooklyn kill lonely old men with poisoned wine out of charity and bury them in their cellar. another one thinks he is theodore roosevelt digging the panama canal but actually digging graves. the third is a deranged serial killer who looks like boris karloff in frankenstein and hates it. he is accompanied by a german plastic surgeon doctor called einstein. the overacting playwright nephew has just been married when he discovers the dark secrets of the family- and arranges for a cover-up. there does seem to be something darker under the screwball comedy veneer about american history, privilege, politics and do-gooder charities, made as it was when another roosevelt was president and just before america went to war (although it was released after) hilarious though.
