The Terrorizers. Edward Yang. 1986.
A Taipei of incomplete people adrift in a fragmented city; of carefully kept middle class bedrooms where a housewife tries to escape through writing novels while her husband tries to hold on to her, the apartment of the felons that fascinates the rich young photographer trying to dodge the draft, the cold hospital, anonymous hotel rooms and reflective offices. The city in between them is in a daze, in half light or seen voyeuristically at a distance; or overexposed and harsh outside the window. The pieces are not supposed to fit and when they do, it is coincidence, and destructive for almost all.
